The Sunbirds started their ace, Kelyn Schellenberg, and he pitched a complete game, allowed one earned run on six hits.
The Thunderbirds got both of their runs in the second inning, after giving up two runs in the first. RF Sean Pisarski scored when SS Sammie Starr reached on an error, and LF Mike Elias scored on a sacrifice fly by 1B Bob Foerster.
The Sunbirds took the lead with four runs off starter Mark Hardy in the fifth. Hardy gave up seven hits in five innings, struck out six. Freshmen Andrew Ledger and Miles Verweel, both making their first appearances, held the Sunbirds hitless the rest of the way.
