First game (9 innings): The Thunderbirds were helped by five unearned runs on three errors by the Warriors.
Mark Hardy got his tenth win of the season, allowing six hits and two runs in seven innings of work. Jeff Hall went the last two innings, allowed one hit.
The Thunderbirds got all the runs they needed in the top of the second, 1B Scott Webster got it started with a single, and LF Nic Lendvoy walked. Warrior starter Jason Braun struck out the next two batters, but 3B Bob Foerster hit a single, bringing in Webster. SS Sammie Starr hit a single to bring in Lendvoy, and 2B Alex White walked to load the bases. CF Jon Syrnyk hit a single to score Foerster, and Starr scored on an error by the center fielder.
Lendvoy went 3-3 for the game. Syrnyk was 3-5 with an RBI, and Steve Bone, who took over as DH from Ryan Pilgrim, was 2-3 with a double and three RBI.
Braun ended up going six innings, and gave up three earned runs and nine hits, but he struck out nine. SS Trevor Winsor went 3-4 for the Warriors.
Second game (7 innings): Taylor King went six innings, allowed four hits, struck out five. 1B Scott Webster doubled in both Thunderbird runs, one in the first inning, and one in the third.
The Warriors were able to keep this one close with a complete game by Derek Stokes. He held the Thunderbirds to six hits (the Birds out-hit the Warriors by only 6-5), and struck out eight.
The Birds led all the way, however. Webster's first RBI came with 2B Alex White and CF Jon Syrnyk on base. White scored, and Syrnyk was thrown out at the plate. It was Syrnyk who hit a double in the third, and scored the second run.
The Warriors didn't get their first hit until the fifth inning. Their run came in the bottom of the sixth, on an RBI single by 3B Craig Spicer. They got the tying run to third base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Shawn Hetherington, who pitched the seventh inning, fielded a ground ball to the mound to get the final out, and collected a save.
