UBC has a softball team

It's a club sport at the moment, but next year, softball will be a varsity sport, playing an NAIA schedule with some of the same opponents the baseball team has. The softball Thunderbirds will have something that the baseball team doesn't; a rivalry with Simon Fraser.

The Head Coach is Phil Thom, and the assistant coaches are Becky Hartley and Erin Cumpstone.

The roster includes two players who have played for the Canadian Junior National Team; SS Jess Hodge and C Tanya McLean. Both have been invited to try out for the Senior National Team this summer. Hodge is a transfer from Virginia Tech, and was a member of the team that went to the Women's College World Series last season. As a freshman, she played in 38 games for the Hokies (23 starts), and had 11 RBI on a team that didn't score very many runs.
