A good effort by the Thunderbirds, but they were done in by two expensive errors in the sixth and seventh innings.
Scott Webster got the start and the loss. He went 6 1/3 innings, gave up six hits, four runs (only two of them earned), struck out five, walked one, and hit two batters.
Matt Chester got three of UBC's seven hits, and he was robbed of another hit in the ninth inning by Warrior LF Nic Benton. The Birds' runs came on an RBI single by DH Ryan Pilgrim in the first inning, an RBI on a fielder's choice by CF Jon Syrnyk (which tied the game) in the sixth, and a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Jordan Pandoff in the eighth.
The Warriors got the winning run in the seventh inning. A run came in on an error by SS Sammie Starr, and 3B Kyle Green and C Brian Ward hit RBI singles.
Matt Fitts got the win for the Warriors. He went seven innings, allowed two runs on four hits, and struck out eight. Kurtis Schumacher, Ashton Florko, and Geoff Burke made relief appearances for the Thunderbirds; Burke shut the Warriors out in the ninth.
This was Lewis-Clark State Coach Ed Cheff's 1,600th win.
