The script for this one had some similarity to yesterday's game against Cumberland. Too many errors, and a great performance from an opposing pitcher from British Columbia.
This time it was Chris Kissock of Trail. He got a complete game, and held the Thunderbirds to one run and six hits, and struck out eight. The only Thunderbird run came in the sixth inning, when Mark Capone led off with a triple, and was batted in by Tyler Hughes. The Thunderbirds had a serious scoring threat in the seventh. They loaded the bases with two outs, but Warrior second baseman Justin Fuller made a good catch of a shallow fly ball by Hughes.
UBC got much better pitching than they did yesterday. Shawn Schaefer, who got his second loss of the season (the first one since February) went six innings, allowed seven hits, two earned runs, struck out three, and walked two. (He'll be back.) Brad Ashman, making the final appearance of his career, did the remaining two innings, allowed two hits, one run, and struck out two.
Davey Wallace was 2-4 with a double in his last game as a Thunderbird. He was, uncharacteristically, charged with all three UBC errors, but at least one of these was a dubious scoring decision. Allen Balmer was 2-4 with an RBI for the Warriors.
So, the Thunderbirds won two and lost two in their first trip to this tournament, and finished fourth. Joe Forest did not see any action in the tournament. Attendance: 2,730.
