The Chaparrals were ahead 1-0 at the time, and giving up this big home run ball appeared to rattle starter Raymond Pelton. However, it was Ian Prescott's second home run of the year, a three-run shot in the fifth, that put this one out of reach. Prescott also had a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and an RBI single in the eighth.
The offensive barrage by the Birds (Johnny Yiu was 4-4, Tyler Willson was 3-5, and Adam Campbell was 3-4) overshadowed another very good performance by starter Doug Grant, who got his 11th win. He went six innings, scattered five hits, allowed two runs, struck out three. (Uh, he hit two more batters.) Also overshadowed was a great defensive play by shortstop Davey Wallace in the first inning, cutting off what could have become a big inning for the Chaparrals.
Jeff Tobin and Matt Chester made their first appearances of the tournament. Tobin took over as DH in the eighth and drew a walk. Chester replaced Mark Capone and came to bat twice in a long eighth inning. He drew a walk the first time, and struck out the second time at a stage of the game when UBC coaches were holding up baserunners. Dave Pasquali, Brendan Rolfe, and Joey Benda made relief appearances. (Benda was missed in the box score.)
Another highlight was a power failure in the sixth inning, which stopped play for 20 minutes. It happened just as a pitch was on the way to Capone. According to the story in the Lewiston Tribune, the catcher couldn't see it coming, but it landed right in his mitt.
